Seton Hall University Summer Program Offers Intensive Study of United Nations

The United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) announced its partnership with Seton Hall University to give advanced undergraduate and graduate students the chance to engross themselves in the political dynamics of the United Nations. Since 2001, the United Nations Intensive Summer Program has familiarized students with the inner-workings of the UN by bringing them together with distinguished practitioners working in the field of multilateral diplomacy.

The UNA-USA and Seton Hall Summer Study program offers todays undergraduate and graduate students interested in international affairs an opportunity to take their learning to the next level, said UNA-USA Executive Director Patrick Madden. Offering this hands-on experience is one of the many ways that UNA-USA is working to connect younger generations with the work of the United Nations.

In the program, participants attend sessions at UN Headquarters, such as meetings of the UN Security Council, as well as briefings at UNA-USA. Directed by John C. Whitehead School of Diplomacy and International Relations Associate Dean Courtney Smith and United Nations Foundation Public Policy Director Minh-Thu Pham, the program is structured around a series of seminars led by UN officials and representatives of governments and civil society on a range of global issues currently on the UN agenda. Key topics have included: peacekeeping and disarmament; human rights and refugees; the status of women and children; member state policies toward the UN; the role of civil society and the private sector at the UN; UN reform; and the environment.
