Come and practice life drawing with a casual group of artists. Our group varies in range of skill from firstimers, hobbyists, students, to seasoned working professionals. We meet at the North Park Recreation Center every Thursday from 10am to 1pm and Saturday mornings from 9am to 12noon to practice figure drawing with a live model.
Everyone is welcome, but you must be 18 years of age or older. This is an open studio drawing/painting group, so there is no instructor, no assignements, no homework or grades. Just practice at your own pace. No photography of the model is allowed, not even from your cell phone. You must bring your own art supplies and easel. We provide tables and chairs, but space is limited so it is first come first serve. If painting with oils, "Gamsol" or odorless Turpenoid are recommended.
We draw/paint in 20 minute intervals with breaks in between for the model; starting with 2 minutes gesture poses (10 poses); then a pair of 5 minute poses and a 10 minute pose; rounding off the rest of the session with 20 minute poses until the scheduled end time. However, the last Thursday and Saturday of every month is 20 minutes of gestures followed by a single long pose for the rest of the morning (broken down into 20 minute intervals to give the model a break).
The North Park Recreation Center is located at 4044 Idaho St, between El Cajon and University Avenue and parking is free. But it cost even to attend. This is CASH ONLY, NO CHECKS, NO CREDIT OR DEBT CARDS. Please try and bring even change for speed and convenience.
